Skipped breakfast in the morning as I was still turned off by the oily dinner I had last night. So we went to the stores in the vicinity of our campus. We went to the convenience store to buy our necessities. In Wuhan, necessities not only meant drinkable water, but it also includes potato chips, chocolates… All the junk food you can think of. Who knows that if I still can’t get used to the food here, this will be my only source of fuel to keep me going. Not forgetting, the stuffs here are super cheap. It’s like I paid 18 yuan for 4 packets of junk food and 2 bottles of water. All these for a whooping S$4! So as we were saying, “Just whack only! Not nice then throw la!” Typical spoilt brats. I know.
In the afternoon we went to explore other parts of Wuhan. We asked of many place of interest from the locals in our campus and followed their directions on reaching the destination. It was my first time taking the public bus in China, do we didn’t know which door to board the bus as the locals just board from either of the doors. Also, when we board the bus, the bus conductor collecting the fare was quite fierce and unfriendly. But i realised that they are only fierce when they are busy, otherwise at night they are very friendly to us. It was quite an experience.
Then in the evening we took another bus and ventured further away from our campus. We went to a place somewhat similar to lady’s street in Hong Kong. From there we tried their local finger food there. The night life there was awesome. They sell things ranging from clothes, accessories to even hermit crabs and little puppies! The puppies there each are sold for 100 Yuan. Incredible. So, thinking that we are kings and queens in china with lots of money, we even thought of buying the dogs only to release them from their sufferings. But we realised that even if we let the dogs free, they can’t survive in china anyway. So we end up forgetting the whole idea.
And also I realised in china that the problem of counterfeit notes are so common that now they check all the 100 Yuan that we give them thoroughly. The people here spit in the public so openly and the children here have splits in their pants! And also the parents allow their child to shit openly in a crowded area beside the dustbin. Gosh!
We went back to our dormitory at night without dinner again. It just wasn’t that appetising. And so, we turned to our snacks for dinner! We were so thankful that we bought lots of snacks yesterday. But…. When I opened one packet, I didn’t like the taste so I threw it away. Then I opened another packet only to find that it is as disgusting as the first. Geez. At this rate, i'll definetely lose weight.
Alright. I guess I’m getting used to the hard bed and the small toilet. Hope i'll really get used to the food soon.
