Just now when we went out to have our lunch/dinner, we did the most stupid thing. Let me tell you about our trip to the super mart…

One special thing that I’ve learnt is that in Wuhan, people don’t buy one whole bunch of bananas; instead they pull out individual bananas and put it into their plastic bag then go and weigh it. But I think they were not allowed to do that because we tried doing the same thing only to get screamed by the staff there. Geez.

Anyway, we went happily into the super mart to stock up on our tidbits and none of us brought out our bags. So the thing in china is that we have to pay extra if we want any plastic bags. We bought a cartful of tidbits and drinks but we refused to take any plastic bags. And so guess what we did? We tried to push the trolley out of the super mart and back to our dorm. It was hilarious. It was raining so we took one umbrella and sheltered the tidbits and quickly pushed the trolley away while some shared umbrella.

We were about 100m away from the super mart when we heard a man shouting. And so we turned around and realized that the man was calling us to stop and return the trolley. All of us were so embarrassed that we used to umbrella to cover our face while we took the things out from the trolley and hold them by hand. Lucky it was dark at night so no one noticed us.

Moral of the story: Kiasu-ism is in our blood. We’re typical Singaporeans after all. But no more next time! We’ll remember to bring our bags out in future.

p.s. Today is a very cold day due to the rain, to the point where my friend spoke and I saw “smoke” coming from his mouth. Brr… It’s time to wear jeans in Wuhan.
