We didn’t bathe in the morning once again. I’ve never not bathed for more than 24 hours before. It’s really disgusting. And I didn’t even brush teeth as water supply was running low. We just used the mouth wash to gargle our mouth. Pathetic. And so we went to have our breakfast at 6 a.m. and then went back to the room to rest and only went out at around 7.30 a.m. Let the pictures show you where and what we’ve done for the whole day..
And so we went back to the cruise to have our lunch and to rest while the cruise makes its way to the next destination.
It is said that it was a custom for the local Ba people to bury their respected ones, head of the tribe or brave warriors. It is still a myth that how they can put a heavy coffin on the sheer cliffs without modern technology.
It was a common funeral custom in ancient times for Yangtze River people to hang coffins on the cliffs. But the intention remains controversial. One legend among the Ba people has it that a man called Wuxiang defeated his rival competing for the chief of the tribe by making a boat out of earth that would float in the water. In order to commemorate the great leader, his descendants made his coffin boat-shaped and placed it high up in the cliffs.
Next, we went to take another smaller ship as the river there is quite shallow.
That sums up our excursion today... But besides that, we experience something new as well.
Around 10.30 pm, our cruise had to cross the dam. It was a new experience as we’ve never seen this in Singapore before. So when we entered the dam, we were all very excited. We totally didn’t know what to expect – whether the cruise will be carried upwards or downwards and how was it done.
Know why our cruise had to be lowered? It’s because our ship was travelling downstream and the water level is much lower than the current water level at that time. So our cruise had to stop at 3 dams and each time the cruise lowered by 20 metres. Interesting right? I bet in your whole life you won’t experience this. Haha.
I feel so lucky to be on this immersion programme as I’ve really learnt and experienced a lot of new things…
